Lanzhou West Railway Station Brings High-speed Era for Silk Road

Lanzhou West Railway Station, a railway hub along the economic belt of “Silk Road”, is preparing to receive the friends and guests from all over the world. By the end of this year, it will be put into operation, and give the ancient “Silk Road” more vitality.

Located in Qilihe District, Lanzhou West Railway Station is for both high-speed railway trains and regular trains. The total floor area is 260,000m2, and the total investment is 3.188 billion yuan. There are 13 platforms and 26 lines altogether. Once it’s completed, the number of passenger transportation per year is expected to be 35 million in the short term and 45 million in the long run.

As for the style of architecture, the local culture characteristics have been fully exhibited by Lanzhou West Railway Station. Such design elements as the Yellow River, the Silk Road, the Flying Apsaras and the spoondrift have all demonstrated a grand Gansu incisively and vividly.

Started on March 1st, 2013, the project has finished the main construction, and now it’s for the interior decoration. The whole project is expected to be finished by the end of October.

Lanzhou West Railway Station is an important supporting project for the passenger railway line from Lanzhou to Urumchi, the first high-speed rail within Gansu Province. When it’s open, only 9 hours are needed from Lanzhou to Urumchi, and Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang will move into the high-speed era simultaneously.
